NABIAC

House Nabiac is a new family home inspired by an Australian rural shed. An object emblematic of rural life; rudimentary in its form, durable, strong and highly functional. The site is a rural farm inland from Australia’s East Coast with extreme seasonal exposure to strong Westerly winds, harsh sunlight, drought and flooding.

The house is conceived in two wings (communal and private) that form a protected enclosure. It is elevated on a platform above the shifting landscape and covered with an expansive roof to capture water and shield from the harsh sun. Designed for a growing young family who enjoyed living outdoors; the house has separate livings spaces, accomodation for visiting family and friends and a number of screened outdoor spaces that engage with the vast landscape.

The house is completely off-grid, long-lasting and durable. It promotes a profound sense of self-sufficiency in a vast and rural part of NSW, Australia.
